SAIF and CIS (Citycounty Insurance Services) have entered into a group/services agreement

The agreement includes an overarching servicing group, of which CIS staff will provide safety and health and return-to-work services.

SAIF and CIS (Citycounty Insurance Services) have entered into a group/services agreement. The CIS board of directors adopted an agreement in principle in January.

"Combining the extensive expertise of both entities, while allowing us each to focus on what we're best at, will be a win for all cities and counties throughout Oregon," said Kerry Barnett, SAIF President and CEO. "Together with CIS, we will create a sustainable workers' compensation program for all Oregon cities and counties who would like to participate, as well as provide stability for the market."

SAIF and CIS have strong relationships and high retention of their current workers' compensation books of business. Both offer high-quality service and expertise that is valued by their respective policyholders.

What will this look like?

The agreement includes an overarching servicing group, of which CIS staff will provide safety and health and return-to-work (RTW) services. And, if approved by DCBS, SAIF would add a new discount (OGSERP) group within the servicing group for cities and counties that meet the underwriting eligibility criteria.

Cities and counties currently insured with SAIF or coming to SAIF from CIS would opt into the servicing group. This would provide these entities with the best of both worlds, being insured by SAIF and receiving safety and RTW services from industry-specific experts at CIS.

"We look forward to bringing the safety and RTW consultants from CIS into the larger SAIF family, just like we do with our other servicing group partners," said Christy Witzke, VP of marketing, sales, and communications. "Our partnerships with AGC, AOL, and HBA all span more than 30 years and have provided consistency and stability for their respective industries. We look forward to similar positive results with CIS."

Would CIS continue to write workers' compensation?

CIS would discontinue writing workers' compensation, but they would continue to write all other lines for cities and counties. CIS currently provides coverage for all other lines of insurance to all SAIF's cities and counties. CIS also provides some coverages for fully self-insured cities and counties. They have strong relationships with these entities even if they don't write workers' comp.

When would SAIF begin writing these accounts?

All these entities have July 1 renewal dates.
