Frequently asked questions

Why is SAIF renovating its campus?

The renovation is needed to keep the existing buildings current with seismic codes and standards. The buildings, which date back to the 1960s and ’70s, also need upgrades to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. A feasibility study determined that the cost of maintaining these older systems would become very high if SAIF did not renovate.

In addition, SAIF’s campus is located in a flood plain. We need to take additional steps to protect the campus from damage in the event of another Pringle Creek flood.

When will construction start? How long will it last?
Construction began in April 2016 and will be completed in 2018.

What does the renovation include?
The renovation focuses on SAIF’s main building at 400 High St. SE. We will increase the square footage by adding more floors. The renovated building will occupy a similar floorplate after the renovation as it does today.

The Parkway building, located at 440 Church St. SE, will have some interior remodeling work, but the exterior will be unchanged. The Church Street building at 460 Church St. SE will be demolished and replaced with a walkway and natural landscaping area.

Will there be construction noise?
Any large construction project will result in some noise, but we will do what we can to minimize the impact on the neighborhood. For example, we plan to design the construction site to reduce the need for trucks to back up, which will reduce noise caused by back-up alarms.
