Scams targeting employers over Oregon OSHA inspections and penalties
Individuals are calling businesses and demanding money while misrepresenting themselves.
Officials with the Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division (Oregon OSHA) have issued a warning about two types of scams targeting Oregon employers.
In both cases, individuals are calling businesses and demanding money while misrepresenting themselves.
The first type of scam involves employers that recently had an Oregon OSHA inspection opened. A scammer will call and identify themselves as representing a consultation firm, telling the employer that an inspection will result in no violations if the employer sends them money.
The second scam involves individuals falsely identifying themselves as Oregon OSHA representatives. The scammers will call employers and offer to settle an enforcement penalty at a reduced amount if they send the money right away.
“None of this reflects how Oregon OSHA conducts its programs, services, and processes under the Oregon Safe Employment Act,” Oregon OSHA officials said in a press release.
If you receive a suspicious call from someone claiming to represent Oregon OSHA or making claims about an Oregon OSHA program, service, or process, call the division directly at 800.922.2689.
In certain instances, SAIF will reach out to customers to request personal information for billing, claims, or policy purposes.
