DCBS issues emergency order to support businesses affected by Oregon wildfires
Order addresses certain insurance and reporting requirements
Be prepared: Things you can do now to prepare for wildfire and smoke
Businesses and workers across Oregon have faced significant challenges due to recent wildfires. To help provide relief, the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services (DCBS) issued an emergency order on July 31, addressing certain insurance and reporting requirements for businesses affected by the fires.
The emergency order is effective July 31 through August 30, 2026, and may be extended. It applies to businesses located in areas identified by DCBS.
The order includes temporary provisions related to:
- Workers' compensation claim reporting requirements. (Employers are still required to report claims within five days of learning about a work-related injury or illness.)
- Grace periods for insurance premium payments and other policyholder obligations.
- Temporary postponement of policy cancellation and nonrenewal.
Policyholders subject to the order who are currently in an intent-to-cancel status will receive notices withdrawing the pending cancellation, and their coverage will not be canceled or non-renewed until the order is lifted.
