Violence in the workplace

SAIF offers a number of videos related to violence in the workplace.
You can find them at saif.com.

Bullying can be a more subtle form of violence in the workplace,
and you can learn more about it at the website for the Workplace Bullying Institute.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are behavioral indicators often exhibited in the workplace that have been linked to workplace violence situations. An article titled “The Warning Signs of Workplace Violence” in the March issue of EHS Today, The Magazine for Environment, Health and Safety Leaders, outlines some of those indicators.

Other resources for learning more about workplace violence include the Occupational Violence page of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Workplace Violence page of Rutgers University’s Crime Prevention Service for Business program.

Domestic violence in the workplace

Mid-Valley Women’s Crisis Service, located in Salem,
provides information on domestic violence and operates
a shelter for victims. Oregon’s Department of Human Services
also has a web page on domestic violence, with additional information,
as well as where you can locate shelters statewide.

At the website Workplaces Respond to Domestic & Sexual Violence, you get information about the cost and other impacts of domestic violence in the workplace. You can also take a quiz to test your knowledge of domestic violence and use the site’s policy creator tool to help make your workplace safer.

You can learn more about the rights of victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking on the Bureau of Labor and Industries website.

The Corporate Alliance to End Partner Violence is a national organization dedicated to assisting employers with developing effective prevention strategies. A wide variety of workplace policy development and training materials are available on its website.

Another important resource can be found on the National Domestic Violence Hotline.

OSHA’s June issue of Resource newsletter also covers the topic of violence in the workplace.

Not just your skin is at risk from UV rays. These websites provide information that can help you protect your eyes.

Prevent Blindness America has information about how UV rays affect your eyes, as well as information about sunglasses.

The American Optometric Association and the American Academy of Ophthalmology also provide information about protecting your eyes in the summer.
