SAIF publishes new resource on covering political subdivision volunteers

Volunteers of political subdivisions – public entities such as cities or school districts – are not automatically covered by the subdivision's workers' compensation policy.

Volunteer support can be essential to the success of a government program or the safety of a community. However, volunteers of political subdivisions – such as city or county governments – are not considered subject workers according to Oregon law, and are not automatically covered under the entity's workers' compensation policy with SAIF Corporation.

new SAIF resource can help public entities through the process of requesting coverage for volunteer workers. In addition to summarizing how to get coverage, it explains what records need to be kept, instructions for reporting payroll, and more.
